GHATS IN VARANASI

GHATS OF VARANASI Varanasi is one of the most ancient cities in the world. According to Hindusim Lord Shiva laid the foundation of this holy city and according to holy literature the river Ganga originates from the hair of Lord Shiva which flows along the city beside which the city is situated. The are the places running along the river where holy ceremonies are performed including cremation i.e burning of dead bodies. According holy books of hindusim it is mentioned the once a person's body is burned in Varanasi and its ashes are made to go into the holy river then his or her's soul gets freedom from the cycle of rebirth and death that is the reason so many people in India wishes to die in Varanasi.
